About Hyllus
Hyllus is a New York City guitarist, singer, and harmonica player specializing in both electric and acoustic harmonica styles. He is available for booking solo, with his blues band The Veligers, or as accompaniment with musicians and bands on any gig or recording date. He also offers in-person and virtual harmonica lessons, which can be arranged by contacting him directly.
Hyllus studied extensively in Boston with blues legends Annie Raines (harmonica) and Paul Rishell (guitar), as well as with Trip Henderson and Marcus Millius (both on harmonica) in New York. He has performed on stage with many of New York City’s finest jazz, folk and blues musicians, including: Miss Maybell and Charlie Judkins; The Milkman & Sons; Ernie “Papa” Vega’s Dream Shadows; The Jackson Lynch Band; Chris Murphy & The Automat; Felix Slim; Karl Schwarz of New Moon Blues; Bill Carney’s Jug Addicts; and many more.
He also runs his own projects under the banner of his independent label, One Dime Records. As a solo performer, in addition to his traditional solo harmonica repertoire, Hyllus sings and plays guitar primarily in the style of the pre-war acoustic blues, with a smattering of world and folk music besides. As bandleader, his music starts in the blues and expands outward into Folk, Jazz, Classical, World and into realms that defy any attempt at classification altogether. He lives in Brooklyn.
